He didn't run too far away. Kadaj had an investment in Tendi - he stood by her when she was injured, had watched as she tried to out-stubborn her wound, and then had stew with her. He was by this point invested enough to make sure that he knew where she was and that he had mapped out enough of the twisted cramped areas to get to her fast. The he went back down one of the more narrower halls only to hear that voice.

Vincent is being unduly cautious. One might say of Kadaj. This is in part true. He doesn't know how much the Remnant's attitude my change with his abilities back in force. But of their surroundings most of all. The way the red eyes gleam in shadows and shift to cast around for any signs of witnesses or eavesdroppers.
For the moment, he's satisfied they're alone.

There was a slight hint of a laugh in his voice, and in the way his mouth turned up at the corners. He wasn't going to show off, not here, especially when he doesn't have any idea what others may do, but he also can't hide it either. He presses a hand against his forearm and sighs, the materia he had there gone still.

"No." Simple, neat and to the point. What does he have to be afraid of?

Kadaj stays silent for a moment and then chuckles, shaking his head. The point he understood. He did release geostigma on children. He used that connection to turn them into tools to help block off a section of Edge just to check a possibility. He knows that this place was not Edge. It was closed off and cramped and too full.
"There's no reason for it," he finally replied, giving a little laugh. "No Mother, no one waiting for Her. I would only use it if I have no choice."

"Choices are for real people," he snaps that, well aware that even if Sephiroth is here in the flesh, there is always a part of him that wasn't considered real. But. A thought blooms unhindered. The Turk was talking to him like he expects Kadaj to make his own choice. Like a real person.

"I don't know the answer to that," Vincent admits. It's not with any maliciousness he speaks; blunt, honest truth is probably better than false hope. But he's not finished.

His sigh was shaky, soft. He didn't know the answers but he had been hoping to hear someone might have a few. Still, it was comforting to hear that maybe he didn't need someone else to have answers for him. Maybe that was something he should do himself.
Nodding once, he accepted that, and made an offering of his own. "Fine. I promise to not release it of my own free will."

Should? And more importantly because of this chance Kadaj has been given, could. But what Vincent has said is enough for now. The taller man's gaze will linger momentarily, assessing. He finally nods. The former Turk's gaze lowers to his holstered weapon. It remains that way but he lefts his hover near Cerberus's charm; more than a decoration or his Warden Item, it is where the weapon's singular materia slot resides. And soon the green sphere that had been slotted inside appears.
"I'll let you borrow this." Vincent holds it out to Kadaj. It's clear this isn't a permanent thing, likely as long as they are caught in these particular circumstances. But it's still a significant gesture.

Kadaj stared for a moment at his hand, tensing slightly when Vincent reached for his weapon. He didn't expect the appearance of the materia, or that the Turk was willing to hold it out to him. 'Borrow' he said, and he knew that meant it was for only as long as they were here, but still the offer was surprising.
He takes it and holds it up, feeling the thrum of power inside the orb, feeling too the Lifestream that it came from. Then he smiled as he pressed it against his arm and the blackness that was his body now surrounded it and pulled it into his body.
"Thanks. I'll give it back when the time comes."
